It’s a “goodbye game” for Google’s ill-fated cloud streaming service.
As a goodbye, Google launched one last Stadia game before the service ends on January 18. Called Worm Game, the title was used by the Stadia team for internal testing of the translation. cloud streaming service.
“‘The Worm Game’ is a modest title that we used to test many of Stadia’s features, long before we went public in 2019, until 2022,” Google said. . “It won’t win Game of the Year, but the Stadia team spent a LOT of time playing it and we thought we’d share it with you. Thanks for playing and for everything.”
As the name suggests, Worm Game is a game in which the player controls a worm and the goal is to eat fruit on the screen. Worms get bigger when they eat more fruit. It’s basically the classic Snake game, but with some extra different modes and levels.
In September 2022, Google announced that they would be shutting down Stadia. All Stadia purchases, hardware and software, will be refunded to all players. Google cited Stadia’s inability to “engage users” as the main reason for the outage. With Stadia shutting down, there were still companies experimenting with cloud streaming services, like Amazon’s cloud streaming service and Xbox’s Luna.
For Stadia refunds, most refunds will be processed by January 18. Those with an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29 will not be charged for their library access until the date of shutdown, which means players have an additional five days, starting on January 13, for a final browse of their Stadia library.
