The Ultimate Homemade Lemon Elixir (Limoncello Style)
Description
Bright, zesty, and incredibly refreshing, this homemade lemon elixir captures the essence of sunshine in a bottle. Using only the zest of the finest lemons, this recipe creates a vibrant, aromatic syrup that can be enjoyed as a chilled digestive or used to flavor gourmet desserts. It’s a perfect balance of citrus tang and smooth sweetness.
Ingredients
- 8-10 large Organic lemons (carefully washed).
- 750ml High-proof grain alcohol or premium Vodka.
- 3 cups Water.
- 2 ½ cups White granulated sugar.
- (Optional) 1 cup Whole milk or heavy cream (for the “Crema di Limoncello” version).
Instructions
- Zest the Lemons: Use a vegetable peeler to remove the yellow zest from the lemons. Avoid the white pith as it makes the drink bitter.
- Infuse: Place the zest in a large glass jar and pour in the alcohol. Seal it tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 5 to 10 days.
- Prepare Syrup: Boil the water and sugar together until the sugar dissolves completely. Let the simple syrup cool to room temperature.
- Mix: Strain the alcohol to remove the lemon peels. Mix the infused alcohol with the cooled sugar syrup.
- Note: If you want the creamy version shown in the photos, add the milk/cream at this stage.
- Chill & Store: Pour into decorative bottles and store in the freezer or refrigerator. Serve ice-cold in small glasses.
