INGREDIENTS

The Dough:

  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 cups.
  • Warm Milk: 3/4 cup (helps the dough stay soft).
  • Sugar: 3 tablespoons.
  • Yeast: 1.5 teaspoons (active dry yeast).
  • Baking Powder: 1/2 teaspoon (for extra fluffiness).
  • Salt: A pinch.
  • Egg: 1 large egg.

For Frying:

  • Vegetable Oil: For shallow frying.

Optional Toppings:

  • Powdered Sugar: For dusting.
  • Cinnamon Sugar: 1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 tbsp cinnamon.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup: For drizzling.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix: In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the egg and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Rest: Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 20-30 minutes until it slightly increases in size.
  4. Shape: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a small round cutter (or a glass) to cut out small circles.
  5. Fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the pieces for 1-2 minutes per side until they puff up and turn a beautiful golden brown.
  6. Coat: While still warm, toss the bites in cinnamon sugar or dust them with powdered sugar. Serve immediately!
