Ingredients
- 1 package (2 sheets) Puff pastry, thawed but chilled
- 1 1/2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese (or Mozzarella), finely shredded
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves Garlic, finely minced or pressed
- 1 large Egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon Water
- 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning or garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
Finish with Garlic Butter: While the squares are baking, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning together in a small bowl. As soon as you remove the hot squares from the oven, brush the tops generously with the garlic butter and garnish immediately with the freshly chopped parsley. Serve warm and enjoy the flaky goodness!
Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Roll and Cut the Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, gently unroll the puff pastry sheets. Use a rolling pin to lightly flatten them out into two even squares. Cut each sheet into 9 or 12 equal squares using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
Layer the Cheese: Place half of the cut squares onto your prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese in the center of each square, leaving a small border around the edges. Top each one with a second pastry square to create a sandwich. Gently press the edges with your fingers or a fork to seal them.
Apply the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the large egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the top of each sealed pastry square lightly with the egg wash to ensure a beautiful, golden-brown shine.
Bake Until Golden: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the squares have puffed up beautifully and turned a rich, golden-brown color.
